Suspect identified in theft of cameras

A suspect was arrested Wednesday in connection with the theft of four cameras that were taken from the Radio, Television and Film Department over the winter break, the department’s chair said.

Two C100 cameras were returned to the department Monday, and the other two were to be returned by the end of the week.

Heidi Bunkowske, the City College public information officer, did not return emails and calls seeking information about this case.

However, Laura Castañeda, head of the department, confirmed the arrest.

“We really want to commend Campus Police for its diligent investigation and for returning the cameras to us,” Castañeda said.

While the search for the cameras has come to a close, Castañeda said, “We intend to ask the President (Beebe) for greater police presence in the C & L Buildings because many of the faculty and staff fear retaliation and sabotage.”
