The second annual basketball spirit night was held at the Harry West Gymnasium on Valentine’s Day. The Lady Knights kicked-off the basketball game at 5 p.m. against Southwestern College. Following the night at 7 p.m. the Men’s Basketball battled it out against Imperial Valley.

City College Knights Athletics collaborated with the Student Affairs department to bring fans, family and friends together for a night of celebration with food, photo booths, music and prizes.

During half-time for both games, Student Affairs staff and faulty hosted the “Halftime Hoops Challenge,” where they selected contestants from athletes to faculty members and students to compete for prizes. Contestants would start running from either basket to make a hoop and immediately run back to their seat before someone else took it.

One winner was Inter-Council President Javier Valle, who took home a goodie bag full of school supplies. He said, “I got lots of school supplies that helped me save money and have more swag to represent City.”

“The impact on the campus will hopefully be greater exposure for our athletics programs and greater attendance at sporting events,” said Athletic Director Randall A. Barnes. “City College Spirit Night comes together during basketball games include both Men’s and Women’s teams. We give our students, staff, and the community an opportunity to visit our Harry West Gymnasium.”

The committee behind City Pride Night is Vice President Denise Whisenhunt, Dean of Student Affairs Marciano Perez, Head Men’s Basketball Coach Mitch Charlens and Randall A. Barnes.
