Knights sports: Week in review

The City College softball team split last week, while the men’s tennis team continued it winning streak.

The City College softball team won a five-inning game against Mt. San Jacinto (1-10) at home Wednesday. The Knights (4-4, fourth place in PCAC) then lost 5-1 at Palomar (13-2) Friday. They next play Riverside City College (9-8) on the road tomorrow.

In other action for the Knights:

Men’s tennis (11-2, second place  in PCAC)
The San Diego City College men’s tennis team now has 11 consecutive victories.

A 7-2 win against Orange Coast College (9-4) Friday on the road capped off a perfect week for the Knights, who also picked up wins against Mt. San Jacinto (2-6) at home Tuesday and against Wartburg University (4-5) at Barnes Tennis Center Wednesday.

The Knights remain in second place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. They  will next face San Diego Christian on the road Tuesday at 11 a.m.

The game against Orange Coast is a rescheduled match originally meant to be played Feb. 5 but was canceled due to rain.

Women’s tennis (5-7, third place in PCAC)
Mt. San Jacinto (0-6) forfeited the match against the visiting City College Tuesday, awarding the Knights a 9-0 win. The Knights followed up with a 7-2 victory against Palomar (1-5) Thursday.

Knights will next play Desert College (4-2) on the road Thursday and are looking for a fifth consecutive win.

Beach volleyball (5-2)
San Diego City College beach volleyball ended its non-conference schedule with a 5-0 loss against Grand Canyon University (7-0) in Phoenix. The Knights will begin conference play against Desert at the Coast Volleyball Club Friday at 9 a.m.
